Pernod Ricard Sweden presents award for sustainable enterprise

The winner of the Sustainergies Cup has now been awarded. Last Friday, Estelle Joubert Westling from Stockholm School of Economics was named the winner during a ceremony at Pernod Ricard Sweden headoffice in Liljeholmen, Stockholm.

She received the award, a check for SEK 25,000 and a trip to Paris, where she will have the opportunity to present her idea “Game for the Future” to managers at the Pernod Ricard Group’s corporate headquarters.

Sustainergies Cup is Sweden’s first case competition for students with a focus on CSR and sustainability. In this year’s contest, the participants were asked to provide suggestions for how Pernod Ricard can conduct an inspiring day for all staff on the theme of sustainability. The task was to be solved with creativity but at the same time taking into account the company’s unique needs and context.

“With contributions from 22 different universities in Sweden and abroad, the level of competition among the participants was tough, but the winning concept is both inspiring and possible to implement,” says Isabelle Ducellier, CEO of Pernod Ricard Sweden.

The jury consisting of Alice Bah-Kuhnke ÅF, Jan-Peter Bergkvist Sleepwell, Sasja Beslik Nordea, Karin Stenmar DEM Collective and Mikael Sundström Pernod Ricard Nordic chose Estelle Joubert Westling and her proposal “Game for the Future” as the winner with the following motivation:

“The winner of the 2010 Sustainergies Cup is a proposal that in a playful way encourages holistic thinking and highlights sustainability issues as strategically important and crucial to business development. It is a viable, locally adaptable and scalable process with the potential to inspire all employees to discuss challenges and see opportunities. The proposal, a sustainability game, meets the contest criteria in a balanced way and demonstrates innovative thinking with a good understanding of Pernod Ricard’s priorities and activities."

Nine other proposals were nominated for the award and received diplomas. The nominated students were:
Nicola Björk, Stockholm University, Andrew Merrie, Stockholm University, Anna Sporre & Linda Norrman, Uppsala University & Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Charanya Chidambaram, University of Maastricht, Joakim da Silva, Royal Institute of Technology, Julia Torstensson, Linköping Institute of Technology, Karin Melldahl & Justin Drees, Uppsala University & Stockholm School of Economics, Kathrin Nordlöf, Umeå University and Mattia Tosti, Stockholm School of Economics.

“The quality of the submitted proposals was very high. We will use them all as a source of inspiring ideas.  It wouldn’t suprise me if some of them are turned into action” says Mikael Sundström, CSR and Sustainability Manager.”

Behind the competition is Sustainergies, a non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate contacts between students and companies working with sustainable development. Through cooperation with Sustainergies Cup, Pernod Ricard Sweden aims to encourage entrepreneurship and accountability and to provide future leaders with inspiration for sustainable business. Pernod Ricard Sweden promotes responsible drinking, which means that only students over the age of 20 years have been able to participate in the contest and its events.
