History

The history of Pernod Ricard Nordic began in 2008 when the French spirits group Pernod Ricard bought the Swedish V&S Group. V&S Group was then divided into Pernod Ricard Nordic and The Absolut Company. 

Pernod Ricard Nordic is a cluster within Pernod Ricard Europe region. It consists of business units, in all Nordic and Baltic countries plus Nordic Travel Retail, distributing a number of products of spirits and wine. Together with development, production and marketing of regional brands Pernod Ricard Nordic is the major player in Northern Europe.

1975 France: creation of Pernod Ricard from the merger of 2 anis-based spirits companies, Pernod and Ricard
Scotland: acquisition of Campbell Distillers (Scotch whiskies)

1980 United States: acquisition of Austin Nichols (bourbon)

1982 France: SIAS MPA, world leader in the preparation of fruits and dairy, sold in 2002

1984 France: Orangina, sold in 2001 

1985 Italy: acquisition of Ramazzotti (bitters)

1988 Ireland: acquisition of Irish Distillers (Irish whiskeys) and BWG, its subsidiary, a distribution company in Ireland and in the United Kingdom that will be sold in 2002 

1989 Australia: acquisition of Orlando Wyndham (wines) 

1993 Cuba: creation of Havana Club International (rum)

1997 Spain: acquisition of Larios (gin, brandies et wines)

1999 Armenia: acquisition of Yerevan Brandy Company (brandies)

2001 Purchase of 38% of Seagram’s Wines and Spirits business
Poland: acquisition of Wyborowa SA, formerly Polmos Poznan (vodkas)
Czech Republic: acquisition of Jan Becher (bitters)

2002 Partnership agreement with Sogrape for distribution of Sandeman (port)
Partnership agreement with Kirin for distribution of Four Roses (bourbon)

2005 Acquisition of Allied Domecq (wines and spirits) in partnership with Fortune Brands

2008 Acquisition of the Swedish group V&S (Wines and Spirits)

Important dates in V&S’s history

1917 The company is founded as a national monopoly for the production, import, export and wholesale trade of alcoholic beverages in Sweden.

1979 Exports of ABSOLUT VODKA begin to the United States, and later to other markets.

1995 Sweden becomes a member of the European Union. The company’s domestic monopoly ceases.

1999 V&S launches expansion through acquisitions in Northern Europe, including Danish Distillers. Lost market shares in Sweden are replaced by strong positions in neighbouring countries.

2001 V&S builds a global distribution network through its part-ownership of Future Brands and Maxxium.

2003 Luksusowa, other Polish brands and production facilities in Zielona Góra are acquired.

2006 The acquisition of Cruzan International, Inc., which began in 2005, is completed and Cruzan Rum is integrated into V&S’s operation.

2008 The Government of Sweden agreeds to sell V&S Vin & Sprit AB (V&S) to Pernod Ricard S.A. (Pernod Ricard)

2010 Pernod Ricard sell a number of Swedish and Danish assets to Altia. Including in particular Explorer vodka, Lord Calvert whisky, 1 Enkelt bitter,  Blossa glögg and Chill Out wines.
But also a bottling facility located in Svendborg, Denmark, two logistic centres located in Odense, Denmark and Årsta, Sweden.
